Roll up your sleeves and get ready to plan and build the paper metropolis of your dreams! This 90-minute workshop was custom designed for the Center for Architecture and Design by a Stanford d.school professor. Kids will warm up with some rapid prototyping and 3-dimensional thinking exercises, then dive deep into their imaginations to collaboratively plan and build their dream city using Paper Punk kits (think LEGO meets Origami). "Design Thinking" concepts and techniques will guide the kids to a visually delightful hands-on model building experience. Yes, you can be anything they want to be…and for 90 minutes, everyone gets to be an architect! Ideal for ages 8-12

This event is organized and presented by Jefferson.

To quote Jack Dangermond, President of Esri:

"Geodesign brings geographic analysis into the design process, where initial design sketches are instantly vetted for suitability against myriad database layers describing a variety of physical and social factors for the spatial extent of the project. This on-the-fly suitability analysis provides a framework for design, giving land-use planners, engineers, transportation planners, and others involved with design, the tools to leverage geographic information within their design workflows."

Join us at the Center City Campus of Jefferson (Philadelphia University + Thomas Jefferson University) for the 5th Annual Geodesign Forum. This year’s forum will focus on the role geodesign technology and modeling plays in the planning and design of the built environment for sustainable, active, and healthier communities that promote a strong sense of well-being. The keynote speaker, Etta Jackson, Founder and CEO of the Institute for Conscious Global Change, will share her experience working with the United Nations Economic and Social Council to achieve the 2030 goals for sustainable development. After the forum, don’t miss the networking social with complimentary food and beverages.

@ The South Tower Gallery at Park Towne Place
On view: September 8 - December 31, 2017
Opening Reception: September 20th, 6-8pm

Featuring: Margery Amdur, Linda Brenner, Colin Keefe, Kristin Rein

Park Towne Place and InLiquid present "Architectonic Shift," an exhibition of four distinct artists telling the story of changing landscapes and cityscapes through art objects, actions, drawings, and installation. The overarching theme is the transformation of time and place, as each work incorporates objects and imagery that are tied to a previous history. As illustrated by Linda Brenner, her unique sculptures are made from trees removed from the site of the Barnes Foundation and from discarded Christmas trees found on the streets of Philadelphia. Altered from their original purpose by the artists' varying processes, the works tell a new story.

"Architectonic Shift" is a part of the Parkway 100’s Connections and Collections Centennial Celebration Exhibition Series.
