This event is organized and presented by Collab at the Philadelphia Museum of Art and the Center for Architecture and Design.
Collab at the Philadelphia Museum of Art and the Center for Architecture + Design invite you to meet Tyler Hays, founder of BDDW. A visionary designer and 21st century craft entrepreneur, Tyler has won accolades from the design community and beyond for his ability to marry the fine craftsmanship of a luxury atelier with an appealingly rustic American aesthetic that appeals to a wide (but discerning) audience. He has been described in the pages of the New York Times as an “obsessive, eccentric master craftsman,” and Tyler’s Philadelphia studio produces furniture, ceramics, clothing, beer, one-of-a-kind turntables and other objects for his high-end Milan and Soho showrooms, BDDW and M.Crow.
At this special DesignPhiladelphia event, Tyler will talk about his career as a painter, sculptor, designer and maker of many things, who is forging a sophisticated aesthetic while working in a homegrown, vernacular style.
Guests will then be invited to embark on a treasure hunt in the Museum’s 17th and 18th century decorative arts galleries, where they will seek and find some of Tyler’s pieces temporarily positioned within the elegant sweep of design history.
